Christine Lucas, MA
I qualified as a Practitioner of Therapeutic Play Skills in January 2012 and in February 2016 as a Certified SandPlay Practitioner. My training was undertaken with the Academy of Play and Child Psychotherapy and Play Therapy. (APAC /PTUK) I also hold the NNEB qualification which was awarded in 1981. My early career was in a Social Services Day Nursery, then owning and leading a Private Nursery School for 5 years, and for the last 15 years as a Nursery Nurse in an Infant and Nursery School.
In September 2016 I made the decision to concentrate on my Therapeutic and SandPlay work and left my role as a Nursery Nurse. I now work with children between the ages of 4 and 7 years in two Infant Schools for two and half days a week. The work can be challenging as there are serious social and economic problems in the schools catchment area, all of which has an impact on the children and their families I work with.
I continue to be excited by my work and enjoy my regular Continuous Professional Development courses and appreciate the amazing support from my Supervisor Eunice Stagg. Currently I am attending Family Life in the Therapeutic Space, a series of six workshops led by Dr Lynne Souter Anderson and Chris Wise. This summer I will also attend a SandPlay weekend retreat led by Eunice Stagg. My aim this year is also to begin Barbara Turners online course, and hopefully work my way through the further courses on offer.
As well as my part time work I am a wife, mother to our son and daughter and gran to our delightful granddaughters and feel blessed to still have the luxury of spending time with my elderly parents.
